Hello Creative Connections Art and Poetry Exhibition supporters,

The 2011 exhibition organising is well underway. The exhibition will be held at City Farm from Sunday 7th to Wednesday 10th August, and at Centro Galleria from Wednesday 10th August to Saturday 13th August 2011. Artists from Disability Services Commission, The Centre for Cerebral Palsy, Nulsen Haven and Brightwater Care Group are currently creating artworks for the project. Poets from WA Poets Inc will again be writing poetry to the artworks and the artists. More details will be made available soon.

Creative Connections is finding it necessary to look at various means of finding funds to continue this very worthwhile project. We will be holding various fundraising activities, but we are asking all our supporters to consider the possibility of donations. Also, artworks are for sale on the website, please go to: http://www.creativeconnectionsaape.net.au/pages/artworksforsale.html for details.

If you are able to make a donation, we would all be truly appreciative, and it could be done in the following ways:

1. A cheque or money order could be made out to Creative Connections and posted to PO Box 684, Inglewood WA 6932.

2. The money could be direct debited to the bank account (details below). Please make sure you include Creative Connections in the reference, and then email the Creative Connections treasurer, Gary de Piazzi at garydepiazzi@bigpond.com and let him know how much you donated and on what date. This is very important for our record keeping.

We are grateful to be auspiced by WA Poets Inc: http://www.wapoets.net.au/.

As you know all the artists have disabilities and they benefit greatly from these exhibitions – the joy of producing the artworks and interaction with their art project assistants, pride and pleasure in seeing their artworks displayed at the exhibition and the benefits of connecting with the wider community. The aims of the project are: To demonstrate to the community, through creative pursuits, the diverse abilities and personalities of people with disabilities; To enable people with disabilities, the community and community groups to connect with each other; To connect people with disabilities with other artists in the community, through the combination of the artworks with poetry by local poets.

This is a very worthwhile project and we want to ensure its continuation. There are numerous costs involved: purchase of canvasses, art supplies, etc; hire of display boards, hire of sound system, chairs, etc; publicity and administration costs (printing, etc). We will also be looking at other means of gaining funds for the future. If you can assist us in any other way, please contact us.

“…for me as a poet I feel absolutely that I have been given a priceless gift from each artist … A fantastic way to be inspired and create something new. Each half of the creative connection pair is equal in that process. This is the real heart of art.” ~ Liana Christensen

“…what a gratifying experience it is to be involved in a project such as this. Writing to all the artworks was an absolute joy and I hope I have summed up my experience with the poem I wrote to Lisa’s art about the butterfly effect; nothing can happen in life without there being a butterfly effect and all the artists created something in me and you that leaves us forever changed.” ~ Saz Campbell

“I swear that magic happened that day.” ~ Flora Smith
